Comes with three web-based components: The Studio, The Editor, and The Publisher. All hosted in the cloud. Looks like a great setup for aspiring podcasters!
Justin Williams
I've been testing this for a few months, and it's pretty great. Can't imagine going back to the whole weird mishmash of Skype, Call Recorder, and the other billion tools I needed to record and edit a podcast.
ed wassermann
@justin what else have u been using?
Justin Williams
@visavis_kid @justin Adobe Audition for editing, Feeder for the RSS feed, iTunes for metadata, and then I tried a bunch of different hosting services.
Ghilia Weldesselasie
Wow! This looks really cool. I was one of the people in the early beta but I didn't have a mic at the time so I couldn't test it out.

@ghiliweld Do it! :D
Adrian Thomas
I've played around with it a bit – takes care of a lot of the hurdles to starting your own podcast, so hopefully it'll open the gate for some more non-technical podcasters as well!
Julian Lepinski

@adrianthomas Thanks! That's our thinking too. So far the majority of our testers have been technical, like us, but we've tried to build Cast to appeal to people who don't want to learn about bitrates and hosting and dynamic compression – anybody with something to say.
Benyamin Clayman
This looks really great. 1. What audio input would be ideal to record into Cast? 2. Does it integrate with phone calls- ie guests calling in?
Julian Lepinski
Maker
@yozapli Any decent quality microphone will do the trick; I've got a nice condenser mic (an AT2035) plugged in to an Apogee Duet, but the Apogee One is a much cheaper solution. We don't yet support guests calling in over the phone, but it's something we're considering.
Drew Bedard
This is awesome. Exactly the type of system I dreamed about building. Well done!
Julian Lepinski
Maker
@drewbedard Thanks – that's always wonderful to hear.

Podcast in a Box! I love it!
Julian Lepinski
Maker
@dredurr Ooh, that's a neat way to put it.
Ed Holloway
So cool - I think all of my excuses to not do a podcast are gone now!

I've been waiting for something like this to turn up...really takes the pain out of it, especially for guests! Just playing with the trial and there's one immediate thing I'd love to see: manual controls for compression and EQ in the editor. I know it's supposed to be a simple solution, and I don't expect to be able to use all my plugins, but having control over the compression settings and access to a basic EQ for each layer seems like a necessary addition. One size does not fit all, especially for compression.

@mostlymarius Thanks for the feedback. We're really trying to strike a balance here with something that's powerful enough for the people who need it, while being straightforward enough to use for the people who don't want to dig deep into the options. This felt like a good compromise for now, but we're going to continue tweaking that stuff and exposing those options where we feel like it makes sense.

Any examples of podcasts recorded with this?

@allnick These guys seem happy to be using Cast: https://twitter.com/dwiskus/status/670430618279391233
Ian Mikutel
@julianlepinski I hosted a podcast from 2005-2010 (reached 20k listeners/week) and did Skype + local track recordings from Audacity + Libsyn...this looks great and perfect timing as I'm about to get back into the podcasting game. Can you hook me up with a trial? Any other things I should know? Great work!! 😎🙌
Julian Lepinski
Maker
@ianmikutel Hey Ian – you're actually able to try out Cast's Hobby plan (which includes 10 hours of recording time a month, as well as all of our cloud mixing and hosting features) for free, without a credit card. If we've done our job right, the rest of it should be pretty self-explanatory 🤗
Yann Bertrand
Looks great! Where does the user listen to these podcasts? Is that also integrated or the podcasters can choose between some providers?
Julian Lepinski
Maker
@_yannbertrand Cast can host for you, if you'd like, or you can use Cast for part of the process and then grab your files and host elsewhere. People usually submit their podcasts to iTunes (and now the Google Play store) to make it easier for users to find them.
Tyson Ferguson
@_yannbertrand Agree that it would be awesome to be able to export to other platforms other than iTunes and Google Play. A lot of podcasters publish their content on multiple platforms to reach as many people as possible. We see a lot of people publish their podcast on Clyp, in addition to iTunes, Soundcloud, etc.
Yann Bertrand
@julianlepinski Did you think about integrating these external solutions to yours? Not sure it's possible technically but it could be awesome to get analytics from your favorite host :)
Julian Lepinski
Maker
@_yannbertrand Right now Cast does some pretty neat stats for you if you host with us, but we're absolutely considering a bunch of integrations and trying to figure out what makes the most sense.
Ryan Shook
Figuring out how to record and publish a podcast is still a much bigger headache than it needs to be. This problem has been needed to be solved for so long now! Excited to try it out, hoping Cast gets it right!
onatcer
This looks great! Just because I'm curious: Do you use Auphonic ( https://auphonic.com/ ) in the Editor? If not definitely check them out1 Their software did magic to my podcast audio files, back when i was podcasting myself.
Julian Lepinski
Maker
@onatcer We do not – Cast uses our own in-house mixing engine. Thanks for the suggestion!
Swapnil Deshmukh
Pretty neat. Well done guys!
Haider Syed
This is perfect. I've been going back and forth with the idea of starting a podcast with a close friend of mine for a while now. Been waiting for something like this that really doesn't give me any other option but to do so! Hahah best of luck!
Mehdi
I like to believe that no having a simple simple tool was the only thing stopping me from podcasting. The possibility to do interviews with out all the skype thing is fantastic ! 1$ an hour is cool ! I have no more excuses now ...
Alexander Khanukov
Impressive! Having been inspired by so many other great podcasts featured here, and having a friend who is really knowledgable about football, I convinced to him to do a "quick, simple" podcast. LOL! Luckily I am technical and have an A/V background but it still took hours upon hours to get the right setup, be able to craft and reproduce the process, and then when exhausted from recording and post-production, having to make sure to get through distribution. By the time each one's out, there's no energy left to market it. This product fixes most of those pain points and let's the podcaster focus on the content and promotion, what got people to listen in the first place. So thank you and I wish this was out at the start of the football season! Perhaps for next season, this will be our platform.
Dan Flanegan
Love this! Just recorded the first four episodes of a new podcast with my co host over Skype etc. looking forward to testing this out!

We should check this out? @carlosGil83

  • "Cast is a great online system for making and publishing high-quality podcasts. It's a true one-stop shop. It offers recording, editing, mixing, hosting and publishing. It's well thought out, well designed and dead easy to use. It's become an invaluable tool for us and we use it every week."

    —Leander Kahney, Cult of Mac

  • "What I love most about Cast isn't how easy it is to use, or how much value they offer for the price point - although that's true. Even better is their fantastic customer service and how willing they are to help us and our podcast succeed. I recommend them to EVERYONE, whether they're already podcasting or just getting started."
